"Not Your Typical Mist-E-Ry" by Rebekah and Annie H.
Chapter One “I don’t know why you thought this was a good idea,” complained Cameron Vesper,”this school smells like failure.” “Stop whining”, scolded Agatha Christie,”I just want to get out of this old abandoned high school as fast as possible “Well we can leave after we finish this project for Mr. Poirot's history class.” Jonah Parks said, annoyed because they had been there for ten minutes and still had nothing done. “Okay, this old building for Greenburg Falls Private High School is pretty big, so we better split up,” brainstormed Agatha,” because this school is giving me the creeps.” “No splitting up! There are way too many horror movies where something bad happens WHEN THEY SPLIT UP!”, Jonah whined. “Whatever”, Mist E. Ryans blabbed in her regular airhead tone,” but I’m gonna go outside and get some cell service, ‘kay? There isn’t here isn’t any in here!” Normally, the door of the school would be locked up tight, but this time there was an exception. The students of the new modern Greenburg Falls Private High School had to do a project over the architecture of the old school. After Mist had left, Cameron spoke in his obnoxious British accent. “I’m gonna go with her, get some air. This bloody building is stuffy and gross and I want out”. Agatha piped up,”I’m gonna go too! I have asthma and I need to use my inhaler where it isn’t dusty. So I’ll be right back!” Jonah, annoyed, spoke “ Fine, but hurry up- I want to get a good grade.” Fifteen minutes later, Mist returned. “Guys, we have a big problem.” “What, no cell service outside either? Or, wait, let me guess, your lip gloss ran out!”, Christina snickered.” “What?Wait, I did drop my lipgloss outside.. But no! We’re locked in the school! The front door won’t open!” Cameron returned. “I went to check some of the other doors and windows but they won’t open either. And has anyone seen Agatha?” “By the way, Mist I found your lip gloss.” “Here I am! I just went around to see if anything else would open. I think the front door got stuck.“ “Really, Agatha? Because I was checking windows and other doors and I didn’t see you at all. So where were you really, Agatha, locking the doors to give us a scare maybe?” “Why would I do that, I want to get out of here just as much as you guys do!”, Agatha yelled, defending herself, “And, well, Cameron I didn’t see you either!” “Both of you- shut up!”, shouted Jennifer Club,”You are acting like six year olds! Oh, he stole my juice box! No she stole mine! Well this is serious so seriously-stop talking!” “Whoa, Jennifer. Calm down. We’re gonna be fine,” soothed Charlie Holmes. “So, who locked the doors?” asked Mist. “Because seriously, I haven’t been able to use my phone for such along time.” “Look, you real-life Barbie doll”, sneered Christina,”you aren’t the only one who matters here. I want to go home so I can shower and forget that this entire day even happened.” Mist burst out crying and ran out of the room. “Now look what you did, Christina. Nice going! I’m gonna go see if she’s alright.”, scolded Agatha. “I’m going with. Mist is really sensitive, Christina, so watch what you say to her.” Jonah said with a sensitive sound to his voice. “I’m gonna go try and find a bathroom. I have to pee,” declared Cameron. “Ew! TMI, Vesper!”, shrieked Jennifer. An hour or so later, Mist returned. “I am not speaking to Christina anymore,” she remarked, “And Agatha and Jonah stayed behind. I think that they were talking about the project. Lame!..” They heard a scream. A very, very manly scream. Like Tarzan, but girlier. And then Cameron came back, panting slightly. “Couldn’t. Find. A Bathroom. But I saw something scary. I saw Agatha by a body, and I.. I think.. Jonah. He’s dead, I think.” “Wait, what?” asked Jennifer. “How could Jonah be dead? Who killed him?” The group ran to where Cameron had seen the body. Chapter Two. “Cameron better not be kidding around,” grumbled Christina. “I’m not kidding” Cameron replied. “Wow, that’s a first.” retorted Christina. They reached the site of the murder. “Oh my goodness”, shouted Jennifer,” there’s the body!” In front of them was the dead corpse of Jonah, a old wooden board lying next to him. “Omigosh, I dated him for like 2 days!,” Mist cried, “I wish I’d never broken up with him, because now I really miss him! Poor Jonah!! Who did this? Who killed my true love?!” “Who’s the only other person in the building that no one seems to see right now?”, Cameron pointed out. Everyone gasped. “Agatha”, Charlie whispered. Jennifer stopped everyone. “Look everyone, we need to think about this rationally. I think one of us should be a detective. I vote myself because I’ve been able to make high honor role for my entire life, and have probably read more mysteries than anyone else here. I think I’m just the most qualified than anyone else.” Mist sniffled. “Wait, you mean like a detective with one of those cute hats? And the adorbs coat-thingy? I want to be the detective!”
Jennifer snorted,”Really, Mist? Are you serious?”
“Yes,”she said uncertainly,”and also ‘mystery’ is my name.” “What? Are you crazy, girl?”, Jennifer questioned. “No. My name is Mist. Emily. Ryans. Or Mist. E.Ryans. Other than the ‘ans’ part in my last name, I am Mistery!” The vote was almost unanimous. Jennifer still voted for herself. But Mist was the detective. “It’s okay, Jennifer. You can be my sidekick!,” she soothed. “Gee, thanks, Mist.”, she said sarcastically. They looked up. Agatha walked in through a door. “Hey, guys. OMG, why is Jonah on the floor? Is he okay?”. “He’s dead. Why look, you are the last one back again.” Jennifer said. “I didn’t do it!” yelled Agatha. “I am sick and tired of always being accused!” “That’s your defense? That you always get accused? You are so whiny! And I bet you locked us in and you killed Jonah because you spoke to him and he died of disgust!”, screamed Christina. Agatha stormed out. Chapter Three “Seriously,Christina? That was a little uncalled for,” scolded Charlie, “I’m gonna go make sure she’s okay.” “No, I’ll go. I need to stop hurting people’s feelings. You guys should start doing some work on the project.,” Christina said. “And I SERIOUSLY need to find a bathroom.,” Cameron declared. They left the room, Cameron heading for a door in the corner covered with an old sheet. Maybe there’s an old bathroom back there. Maybe not. The group got started on the project. “Those look like some old archways. Mist, write that down for the project,” brainstormed Jennifer,”It could come in help later.” They heard another scream. “Not that again, “ groaned Jennifer, “And I still think we should re-elect for ME to be the detective.” When they got to the room, they looked around for a body. “Eew, I think that this is an old cafeteria,” groaned Mist, “because it smells like petrified lard.” Agatha walked into the room, with black smeared around her eyes, her face red, and her hair and absolute mess. “Hey guys, I found a bathroom. Better tell Cameron..My mascara started running and now.. I probably look insane!”. She started laughing. Like a maniac. Scary. “So I guess you have no idea why There was a horrible scream and now... A DEAD BODY?!”, Mist pointed to the corner. “See, Jen? I can be a great detective!!” “STOP ACCUSING ME! “ screamed Agatha. “Wait where’s Cameron?” “I’m right here, I heard a scream coming from this room and it sounded like Christina. I come in here and I find Christina in the corner...dead. Then I headed back to the room to find you guys to tell you and you weren't there, so I headed back. “ Cameron persuaded. “Cameron, the good news is that Agatha found a bathroom. The bad news is that she most likely killed Christina.”, explained Jennifer. “I’m not going to even bother defending myself.”, muttered Agatha. “Look, Agatha, you always hated Christina. You cannot keep avoiding blame because you know that YOU did it!”, shouted Cameron. There was a chorus of mumbled agreements. Mist looked up from the thinking position she was in. “Look, Agatha, You deserve a fair trial as much as anyone else. So I’m not gonna say it’s you, but I’m not going to defend you either. “ “Thank you Mist, see she’s actually fair!” Agatha agreed. “I think that all of the suspects should be interviewed so that we can figure out who has been killing our classmates.” Mist said. “Well there are no suspects except for Agatha.” Jennifer concluded. “What about Cameron, he’s never there when the murders happen either.” Charlie Holmes spoke up. All of the living students were told to go to a trial to figure out who did the crime. It was decided by Mist that if anyone didn’t show up then they were the murderer. Afraid that they would be accused of killing their friends, everyone showed up. “Can we get through this quickly so I can watch Agatha be arrested?”, Cameron said lazily. “I THOUGHT THIS WAS A FAIR TRIAL!?”, shouted Agatha. Cameron was calm. “I’m gonna go use that bathroom that Agatha found,” he yawned, “because I seriously have to pee.” Charlie yelped, “Me too! I’m coming with!” Agatha thought for a moment. “I think that before the trial begins we should all have a chance for a bathroom break. I’m going.”, she said. No one else moved. Agatha, Charlie, and Cameron all left the room to go to the bathroom. 3 minutes passed. Cameron returned to the trial room. “Charlie’s dead! I came out of the bathroom and there was Charlie-laying on the floor.” “Where’s Agatha?” Jennifer asked “ I don’t know. I ran here to tell you guys before I found her.” Cameron answered, out of breath. “Let’s go investigate!” Jennifer and Mist yelled. When they found Charlie right in between the two bathrooms, the girls and the boys. Agatha then came out of the bathroom and immediately came over to Charlie and the group. ‘Who did this, how could they?”Agatha wondered and asked in need of an answer. Mist and Jennifer left the room to get a definite decision as to who has murdered these poor students. “It was obviously Agatha,” said Jennifer, “that’s how all good mysteries are.” “No it’s not. It was the only other person who wasn’t with us during the deaths.” Mist stated. “What? It obviously wasn’t Cameron. He would never do something like that.” “Think about it. Cameron went over to that door in the corner today-the one covered in a sheet. I went over after everyone left and found that it was a secret passage. I took it to the scene of the murder, it branches out all over the school. There’s even a way outs.” “Please explain.” “Cameron left that day, going in the same direction as Mist and Jonah, but then ducked into an entrance to the tunnel system. He probably then raced outside and locked all of the doors.” “And how do you know that?” “Cameron returned my lip gloss to me earlier. He said that he had found it-but I had dropped it outside on the way in. Christina reminded me when she asked if I had run out.” “Okay. I see where you’re going. But why would he kill Jonah, Christina, and Charlie?”, she said. “Girl, please! I know everything that goes on in this school. Cameron and Jonah used to be best friends-until Jonah stole Cameron’s spot on the baseball team. Cameron never forgave him. Christina and Cameron went out last year-but Christina dumped him because she found his British accent too annoying. And he obviously kills off Charlie because he brought up the fact that he wasn’t around at the time of the murders either. Charlie risked his innocence.” “And now you risk it as well,” growled Cameron from beside the door. “Don’t do anything you would regret, Cameron!”, screamed Jennifer. He lunged towards her, most likely to knock her out. But he was met with a karate chop to the head that knocked him out. “What? Cheerleaders learn to defend themselves!,” said Mist. “So now what?,” asked Agatha, walking into the room with everyone else, “We kind of eavesdropped on the whole conversation.” “Now, we finish our project. And then we can take the tunnel out and go home. I’ll take all of this to the police,” explained Mist. “The dumb blonde saves the day,” murmured Jennifer. “Not so dumb, “ said Agatha, “Mist tutors me in, like, every subject.” Mist blushed. “Lets just finish this project.” “No way, hos-e! Those bodies are starting to stink, and we need to get this to the police!”, shrieked Jennifer. The group followed Mist. “I saw a tunnel entrance right here,” she guided, “ and it leads right outside.” “Why didn’t you show us this like three deaths ago?,” asked Agatha, dragging the unconscious body of Cameron. “I went to tell you-but then we were dealing with all the murders and I kind of forgot.” They made it out into the sunshine. “Now we go to the cops.”, said Agatha. THREE MONTHS LATER Cameron went to prison on a life sentence. And now has to deal with anger management. The students still got their homework into Poirot on time. A+! Christina, Jonah, and Charlie had their proper burials. Well, not quite. Jonah wouldn’t have a burial for another 67 years. It turns out that Cameron just long-term knocked him out. When the ambulance showed up for the bodies, he was wandering around the school, and he was really confused. So maybe they’ll live with the haunting memories for the rest of their lives, and will never go in the old high school again. Mist and Jennifer work together, and realized that they need to put their differences apart and be a team. They are now best friends, along with Agatha. Agatha turned out to be really great at writing scary stories and turned the old school into a setting in one of her best-selling novels, and makes it into a famous haunted house around Halloween .
